Milwaukee-based Briggs & Stratton will develop a $9.4 million expansion at its Auburn, Alabama, facility. The building project is expected to create 35 new jobs during the next year, according to an article on al.com.

Briggs & Stratton remains one of the largest manufacturing employers in East Alabama.

“After emerging from Chapter 11 restructuring as a new company with a new owner and a new CEO, Briggs & Stratton has a new beginning, and we are looking forward to 2021 with high expectations,” says Plant Manager Erick Rodriguez in the article. “We are confident that we will continue to achieve success here in Auburn.”

Phillip Dunlap, director of the city of Auburn’s economic development department, says Briggs & Stratton’s expansion announcement is not only a good sign for the local economy, but an important indicator that the area has successfully weathered the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The last quarterly survey of our industries combined showed that Auburn’s employment numbers have recovered and have even surpassed those of the pre-COVID-19 period,” Dunlap says in the article.
