Irrigation & Green Industry magazine, Fairfax, Virginia, announced the third and final winner of its new Changing the Landscape Awards, which spotlight amazing projects by landscape and irrigation professionals. Light Up Nashville LLC, Madison, Tennessee, was chosen as the winner of the landscape lighting category, sponsored by Brilliance LED, for a project that used 380 lighting fixtures on a 220,000-square-foot estate.

“The landscape lighting submissions showed how dramatically a well-designed layout can change a property,” said Kyle Brown, Irrigation & Green Industry editor-in-chief. “Light Up Nashville gave this estate an entirely new look at an enormous scale. It’s really incredible work.”

Pelham McMurry, president and founder of Light Up Nashville, took on the largest install he’s ever done when he designed and installed a landscape lighting system for the estate. He planned in layers to make the most of the mature Japanese maples planted around the property, creating depth and drawing out key elements. He carefully inset lights into the limestone base slab of majestic lion statues that the owner had purchased abroad to enhance their effect. Once the installation was complete, McMurry did his own photography of the finished project.

“Any time you have to deal with existing lighting and integrate new, updated lighting is a challenge,” wrote a contest judge. “The property is large with a lot of lighting demands that use every fixture that is made.”

“Congratulations to Pelham McMurray and the team at Light Up Nashville LLC! Light Up Nashville brings magic to the nighttime hours. Each feature in every project is surgically precise, which effectively turns every illuminated vignette into landscape jewelry,” said Kevin Smith, national tech support and trainer for Brilliance LED. “Pelham and his team are masters of landscape lighting design and installation. They have the creative vision and technical skill set to bring the best out of any project. This recognition is truly deserved!”

A case study feature on Light Up Nashville and the installation was included in the August 2021 issue of Irrigation & Green Industry magazine, and a podcast featuring an interview with McMurry will be available on www.igin.com. The winner of the landscape design category, sponsored by Ditch Witch, was announced and featured in the May/June issue. The winner of the of the irrigation category, sponsored by Dawn Industries, was featured in the July 2021 issue.

The Changing the Landscape Awards highlighted accomplishments by landscape and irrigation professionals in work completed in 2019 or 2020. Submitted projects were judged and winners selected by members of the IGIN Editorial Advisory Board.
