Master Lawn, a subsidiary of Olive Branch, Mississippi-based parent company Michael Hatcher & Associates, has acquired Mid-South Turf and Ornamental. Michael Hatcher, president and CEO of Michael Hatcher & Associates says the deal was finalized Feb. 4, according to an article on bizjournals.com.

“By joining forces, customers of both companies will benefit from a broader range of horticultural services and technician experience,” says Trey Ball, CFO and general counsel of Michael Hatcher & Associates, said in a release. “In addition, customers will benefit from expanded service lines including mosquito spray, flea and tick control, as well as holiday season lighting and decorations.”

Mid-South Turf and Ornamental has provided residential, industrial and commercial lawn care services in the Memphis area since 1983. Owner Bud Cummings said in the release that Michael Hatcher & Associates checked all the boxes with their commitment to the customer, industry, financial strength and company culture.

“This acquisition positions us with the manpower of now having enough technicians that we can train on a regular basis,” says Hatcher.

Michael Hatcher & Associates, which specializes in commercial and residential landscape maintenance services throughout the Mid-South, is an employee-owned company, founded by Hatcher in 1987. It adopted an ESOP in 2008 and relocated its headquarters to Olive Branch from Memphis in 2016.

All of Mid-South Turf’s employees — one customer service representative and eight technicians — will be retained by Master Lawn. Hatcher has a total of 150 employees. Master Lawn itself has 20 employees, a fleet of about 90 trucks, and 3,000 residential customers.

“Over the 30 years we’ve been in business, I have learned that our most valuable asset is our human capital,” says Hatcher. “In growing the business over the decades, we have always invested and continue to invest in our human capital.”
