Electors met across the U.S. to cast votes that will officially name President-elect Joe Biden as the winner of this year’s race, according to an article by The Associated Press.

As part of the Electoral College’s processes, electors met in all 50 states and the District of Columbia Dec. 14 to cast ballots, which will be sent to Washington to be tallied in a Jan. 6 joint session of Congress.

In November, Biden won 306 electoral votes against Trump’s 232, with a goal of 270 to be elected.

Biden will be sworn into office Jan. 20, 2021, on Inauguration Day.

“The Irrigation Association congratulates President-elect Biden on his historic victory,” says John Farner, industry development director for the Irrigation Association, Fairfax, Virginia. “The IA stands ready to serve as a resource to the Biden administration as our nation faces some of its toughest challenges ever. As he builds his senior staff and cabinet, we look forward to working with President-elect Biden on not only promoting efficient irrigation but also small business issues, including restoring the H-2B program as a viable solution to the labor challenges plaguing our industry.”

Landscapers and other small business owners could see an impact through changes in corporate tax rates under a Biden administration, says Brian Halbert, principal at Brian Halbert & Associates, an economics firm in San Antonio. In reality, that could mean that some businesses will spend more for new equipment or trucks to offset those increases with write-offs. Biden has also said he’d like to increase capital gains taxes, but there are no formal numbers in discussion.
It’s always a good idea for small business owners to connect with tax professionals when preparing for changes in tax law and building a plan that will keep the company healthy, Halbert says.
